Getting Started
How do I schedule my first appointment?
You can schedule directly through our online booking system by clicking the "Schedule Appointment" button on this website. Choose a date and time that works for you, and you'll receive an email confirmation with intake forms to complete before your first session.
If you prefer to schedule by phone or have questions before booking, call me at 929 888 7956 or email info@tophavencounseling.com. A brief consultation call is available if you have questions before your first session.
Do you offer a free consultation?
Yes, 15-minute phone/video consultation to discuss fit and answer initial questions.
What should I expect in the first session?
The first session is about understanding what brought you to therapy and creating a plan for our work together. We'll discuss what you're currently struggling with, relevant background and history, your goals for therapy, and how we'll work together. I'll explain my approach, answer your questions, and by the end, you'll have a sense of whether we're a good fit and a clear direction forward. You don't need to share everything at once. we'll move at a pace that feels right for you.
How long are sessions and how often do we meet?
Typically 50-60 minutes, weekly initially, then adjusted based on progress.
Insurance & Payment
Do you accept insurance?
I am in-network with most major commercial insurance plans including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and UnitedHealthcare. I also accept private pay and can provide superbills for clients using out-of-network benefits. Please reach out with any questions, I’m happy to work with you to keep therapy affordable.
What if you don't take my insurance?
If I'm not in-network with your specific insurance plan, you may still have out-of-network benefits. Many insurance plans reimburse a portion of therapy costs when you see an out-of-network provider. I can provide you with a superbill (a detailed receipt) after each session that you submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Contact your insurance to ask about your out-of-network mental health benefits and reimbursement rates. Payment plans may be available on a case-by-case basis. Please contact me to discuss your situation and we can work together to find a solution that makes therapy accessible for you.
You can verify your out-of-network benefits easily through Thrizer:
What are your rates?
My standard rate for individual therapy sessions is $150. I'm in-network with major commercial insurance plans, so for clients using insurance, your out-of-pocket cost depends on your plan's copay, coinsurance, or deductible. For self-pay clients, a limited number of sliding scale slots ($100-$150) are available based on financial need. Please contact me to discuss your situation.
What payment methods do you accept?
I accept major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover), debit cards, and HSA/FSA cards. Payment is processed securely through our HIPAA-compliant client portal at the time of service. If you're using insurance, you'll pay your copay or coinsurance at each session.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please provide at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Sessions that are missed or canceled with less than 24 hours notice will be charged the full session fee, except if the appointment is rescheduled for that same week. This policy ensures that I can offer your appointment time to another client in need.

Virtual sessions provide the same quality of care with the convenience of meeting from home.
