Who I Am

I'm Iyinoluwa Oluwatola, a bicultural Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC). I earned my Master of Social Work (MSW) from Rutgers University and have spent years working across inpatient, outpatient, and community-based settings. That range of experience has given me a deep understanding of mental health and addiction across different levels of care and has shaped my practical, action-oriented approach to therapy.

Being bicultural informs how I understand identity, belonging, and the unique pressures that come with navigating multiple worlds. I bring both personal understanding and clinical expertise to this work. My role is to provide structure, guidance, and thoughtful feedback, while honoring the fact that no one knows your story better than you do.

I believe that even in difficult moments, you have the capacity to regain confidence, direction, and a sense of peace. You don't need to be "fixed", because you're not broken. You may need support, skills, perspective, or someone who can walk alongside you through complexity and challenge. That's what I'm here for.

Who I Work With

I work with adults from all backgrounds who are ready to do the work of change. You might be someone who:

  • Has been in therapy before but didn't feel truly challenged or supported
  • Wants to understand deeper patterns, not just surface-level coping strategies
  • Values directness and appreciates a therapist who will be honest with you
  • Is managing addiction or recovery alongside other mental health concerns
  • Feels the weight of cultural expectations or family dynamics
  • Looks successful on the outside but feels overwhelmed on the inside
  • Is experiencing burnout, compassion fatigue, or career-related stress
  • Wants practical tools, not just a listening ear

If you're looking for someone who will sit back and simply validate everything you say, I may not be the right fit. But if you want a therapist who will work alongside you with honesty, compassion, and a commitment to real change, let's talk.

My Approach & What to Expect

As a dual-licensed clinician (LCSW & LCADC), I specialize in the intersection of mental health and addiction. My training allows me to address the complexities of dual diagnosis, the impact of cultural identity on mental health and recovery, and the unique challenges that arise when navigating both emotional wellness and sobriety.

I’m not a “nod and smile” therapist. I take an active, collaborative role in your growth, my style is direct, supportive, and grounded in real-life application. I'll ask questions that challenge you to think differently, offer feedback that's honest and constructive, and hold you accountable in a way that's supportive, not punitive.

I use an integrative, evidence-based approach that draws from:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) — identifying and changing unhelpful thought patterns
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) — building emotional regulation and distress tolerance skills
  • Motivational Interviewing — exploring ambivalence and strengthening commitment to change
  • Solution-Focused Therapy — identifying what’s already working and building on your strengths
  • Person-Centered Techniques — creating a safe, nonjudgmental space for authentic exploration

Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all model, I tailor sessions to your unique needs and goals. Together, we develop a personalized toolkit that may include emotional regulation strategies, communication and interpersonal skills, boundary-setting, coping mechanisms for stress and triggers, and practical problem-solving for real-world challenges.

While we may explore the past when it offers helpful context, our primary focus is forward movement. You'll leave each session with clarity about what we're working on and concrete steps you can take between appointments. I create a space where you can be honest about what's not working, without judgment, without shame, and without fear of being misunderstood.
